Which gs are you using? what does update-alternatives
--display gs show?  possible issues are 1) gs-* 8.x is
broken. you can confirm it with update-alternatives --config
gs and choose gs-esp for default gs. try it again then.  2)
even gs-esp 7.x is broken. please make sure if your
document is sane.  3) the document itself is
broken. Identity-H is actually the same file what Adobe
ships. so if it also happens on any Adobe products, I
suspect it is.  4) the font that was determined by your
document or is assigned by gs, is broken. gs doesn't maps to
the font if it doesn't actually support any glyphs in
Identity-H range.  please attach full error log from gs. you
can get it with running gs directly.

Please try above steps anyway. it's necessary to track this
problem down.
