Fresh install of jessie 8.1 with an immediate upgrade to sid, and installation of texlive-full, Papersize defaulted to a4 with /etc/papersize set to letter. The issue is that the binaries for texconfig and texconfig-sys have been removed from the debian version of Texlive, and with that the directory /usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/texconfig as well. The script /etc/libpaper.d/texlive-base contains the test: # If texlive-base is removed, just do nothing. test -x /usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/texconfig/tcfmgr || exit 0 With the removal of texconfig from the debian version of texlive, this is no longer a valid path, so the script exits without adjusting the papersize.
