Package: ghex Version: 3.10.1-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer,
today I’ve opened a file named “stream.dump” with GHex, changed the first byte in the file from 0x47 to 0x48, and saved it again. These actions unexpectedly reduced the file size from 23,386,099,712 Bytes to only 1,911,263,232 Bytes, causing 91.8 % data loss. My guess is that GHex loaded the file incompletely because it did not fit into RAM. That’s a design decision that is not the subject of this bug report. GHex should however give a warning to the user, that the file could not be loaded completely. -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.0 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages ghex depends on: ii dconf-gsettings-backend [gsettings-backend] 0.22.0-1 ii libatk1.0-0 2.14.0-1 ii libc6 2.19-18 ii libcairo-gobject2 1.14.0-2.1 ii libcairo2 1.14.0-2.1 ii libgail-3-0 3.14.5-1 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.31.1-2+b1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.42.1-1 ii libgtk-3-0 3.14.5-1 ii libgtkhex-3-0 3.10.1-1 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.36.8-3 ii libpangocairo-1.0-0 1.36.8-3 ghex recommends no packages. ghex suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
