Sounds like client hook misconfiguration.

For some reason hooks/reflog still contains:

 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000
857886ece844dfa69255b8f5ed846cbd2a491c8f refs/tags/debian/2.5.3-1
 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000
668601e54c14431c06af59cc71484dcf58737183 refs/tags/upstream/2.5.3

despite the 'cat > hooks/reflog' in
/home/groups/debian-in/meta/debian-in-post-receive.

$ ls -l hooks/reflog
-rw-r--r-- 1 vasudev-guest scm_debian-in 214 Jun  1  2013 hooks/reflog

Sounds like a permission issue. The umask setting seems right, so
removing hooks/reflog should fix the problem for any further commits.
