FWIW, I don't know why you cannot reproduce this, since the dangling symlink definitely _is_ in the package:
$ dpkg --contents ./manpages-dev_2.17-1_all.deb | grep "open_memstream" lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2005-12-23 18:05:26 ./usr/share/man/man3/open_memstream.3.gz -> fmemopen.3.gz $ dpkg -L manpages-dev | grep "open_memstream" /usr/share/man/man3/open_memstream.3.gz I also got a mail from the daily cron job reporting the issue.
