I have this problem until I migrate to Jessie from Wheezy. When I play a surround file (FLAC) output is only stereo. I expect 4 channels or 6 (visible in pavucontrol). Some MP3 files fail in the "middle" of the song. Result : no sound, or noise. Theses files work well with gst-play-1.0 or gst-launch-0.10. I can send you example file.
