I've been told that there are a lot of structural changes between 2.6.4 and 3.0.0 so back-porting the patch would be difficult. It is hoped that 3.0.0 (and 3.0.1) will arrive very soon. They're mostly waiting for documentation and translations, apparently. One could make a 3.0.0~pre1-1 based on the SVN branch. Perhaps in experimental? The change to 3.0.x, whenever it happens, is bound to require other packages to be updated.
