Agreed that we should really try to get this fixed for 8.1.
I've just uploaded 2.2.18. I will try to do a stable update as well, but
am unfortunately low on Debian time. Help welcome.
I know I've been missing in action for a long time

in my absence. I'll prepare the stable update tomorrow.
