gPodder does the right thing, which is use xdg-open on the downloaded file to
open it. gPodder doesn’t in any way reference Totem as such. Depending on which
applications are installed, which Desktop Environment is used and which
application the user has set up as preferred application for the file types
(which can change, e.g. with Nautilus - the GNOME file manager - by
right-clicking on the file and setting a different default application).

This is probably not a bug in gPodder itself. Does opening the downloaded files
work if you use xdg-open on the files? Does it work when you double-click the
downloaded files in the file manager? For which podcast/feed does this happen,
and what is the file type of the episodes?

Thanks,
Thomas
