Manual page claims notwithstanding, the program does not behave like gzip. It behaves like tar. Further, it does not have a 7zcat or a command line option equivalent to gzip's -c. As such, removing source files is disastrously non-compliant with the principle of least surprise, as well as being impossible to suppress.
