The bug is still present in stable jessie. I installed debian 8.0 in a clean VirtualBox environment. Did update-grub && update-initramfs -u The next boot stops early in boot stage with the following line: "loading initial ramdisk" I found out that deactivating USB completely in that virtual machine solves the problem. Update: Strange thing, the next reboot succeeded even with USB enabled again...
