I'm not quite sure if I share your sentiments with -p0 looking
nicer than -p1.
Looking in to it in a practical side;
-p1 has an advantage in that upstream/external patches can be
used directly (althouhgh I wouldn't raelly do that, since
they almost always need some patching up).
Making it configurable will require that -p0 has some advantage.
Thinking about it, using -p0 would mean .dpatch files will make
less sense when sent upstream.
I personally do submit .dpatch files upstream.
