Okay, this is interesting. So libpam-systemd, despite the name, is still
useful even if systemd is not present and SysV init is in use?

Would the fix then be for libpam-systemd to recommend systemd,
rather than depend on it? I see that xfce4-session already
recommends libpam-systemd.

(Would it make more sense for xfce4-session to recommend policykit-1
instead? It sounds like Xfce talks directly with PolicyKit, rather than
libpam-systemd...)
