i'm the new maintainer of gphoto2's debian package.
 
you reported this bug in 2005. if you still use gphoto2: do you still
have this camera ? do you still have to use this method ?
 
i don't know if is the same situation, but i had to set my cel phone
to 'Camera (PTP)' to be recognized as a camera and not a simple usb device.
perhaps you have to do something similar.
