Thank you so much for your quick and positive response!

I have found that, aesthetically, I like properly capitalized directories
for user-y stuff ("Documents", "Downloads", "Pictures") and for things that
are that way by default ("DCIM-1234"), but prefer lowercase names for
systems-y stuff.

Since turning on case-insensitive tab-completion (in zsh; I don't know of
bash has that option), navigating them has become much easier.
