This is because we actually use jython and not the C implementation of
python, and jython reuses the implementation of System.out that can be
found in jruby. So, technically speaking, yes, we need jruby to use
jython. 

But then again, I'd say that jruby should be pulled as a dependency of
jython, not by PLM directly. Could you please be more specific about
the error that you are experiencing?
