The reason why mpv is not recommended by youtube-dl, while mplayer/mplayer2
are is not because it is nice to have a video player.

The reason is because they are actually *used* as a download tool by
youtube-dl for certain kinds of downloads.  youtube-dl call mplayer whenever
needed and given that mpv has a command line interface that is incompatible
with those that mpv, it can't be used (even if the mpv binary were symlinked
to mplayer).

The appropriate changes would have to be incorporated into youtube-dl
upstream.
