I replaced sysvinit with upstart and when I booted I have no prompt. Apparently login propmpt is not available neither on tty1 nor ttyS0. There is login prompt on tty2 but this is not shown. Note that in the case when plymouth shows pretty graphics or text progressbar it is obvious that the tty1 is taken by plymouth. However, both in qemu (with the default Cirrus graphics emulation) and on my tablet plymouth faios completely so there is just inexpliacble void on tty1. I think this could be resolved by printing a message on the console which would get hidden by plymouth if it works and would show when it does not. Alternatively, there is an error saying something about fallback graphics process failing so the plymouth failure can be also detected.
