Package: libgnome2-vfs-perl Version: 1.082-1 t/GnomeVFS.t has this:

It's not clear to me if the actual modules look in ~/.gnome or if this
is just a leftover, but at least setting $HOME to something nonexistent
for the build would probably be in order.
