That sounds like a race condition with multithreaded decoding. Can you reproduce this crash with "avplay -threads N .../media.avi" (with various values of N)? Also, this is an issue that needs to be looked at upstream. Please forward this issue with full backtrace as described at https://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace.
