Thanks, that's a good idea for a better implementation, and I've done
so.

FWIW, that was an inflated severity. Alien is more and more used to
convert debs to rpms
(http://kitenet.net/~joey/blog/entry/alien_use_patterns-2004-02-11-20-15.html)
and also, this bug only caused debs created by alien to create mode 700
directories in some circumstances when installed, not always.
