I have the same problem on a fresh jessie install. Synaptic just freezes after I click on Filters from the Settings window. Nothing happens no matter how long I wait. The synaptic window is not responsive at all. Even the 'x' close window button does not do anything. I use xkill to kill the window. When I run synaptic in a terminal, no errors are given in the terminal when it freezes.
