Package: sendmail
Version: 8.13.5-3

Hi,

Hello again :)

when the debian sendmail package is removed but not purged (e.g. to
test other MTAs but keeping the config files to have the way back to
sendmail) the cronjob /etc/cron.d/sendmail keeps sending error
messages.

Nice catch... sendmail-base creates /usr/share/sendmail/sendmail, which
is tested in /etc/cron.d/sendmail (to catch removals)...

Did you have to remove more than sendmail-bin to install other MTAs ?

I'm very interested in any and all problems you run into with this
scenario (see below for why).

The job should do nothing or be removed if sendmail is not installed.

Indeed, and that used to work before the package was split - yes,
another split; this one intended specifically to start the work on
allowing easy MTA switching, and even multiple MTAs on the same box.

I have a vested interest in having multiple MTAs installable - so I can
package smX (which, for the nonce, is only suitable for outbound mail,
or a mail gateway as its milter capabilites are still somewhat limited).

<Mercury> Someone fix it.
<Despair> committed
<Knghtbrd> Despair: Mercury?
<Despair> Knghtbrd: he's tired, made a mistake, wanted someone to undo it.
<Knghtbrd> Despair: so you had him committed?
<Despair> Knghtbrd: well, dedicated anyways.
