I had your same problem. Unfortunately after discovering it was not occurring using a just created user I deleted from my HOME some config files related to fonts and fontconfig and lualatex worked again... but I did not have the time to document it so I can't tell you exactly what to do. First can you try if using a new user (so no configuration font related) lulatex just works? On my history file I have: 202 rm -rf generic/ 228 rm -rf fonts/ 235 rm -rf tex/ 314 rm -rf luatex-cache/ 334 rm -rf .fontconfig/ As you can see I removed also my personal installed fonts, but they were not causing the problem. Please can you report here if you find what config file is harming lualatex?
