Hi,
The problem is even worse on my brand new Toshiba Satellite C55-A-1ND.
The BIOS doesn't even probe the fallback location in
/EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi. Instead this system always boots the Windows 8
bootloader at /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi. In order to get Grub to
work I had to copy grubx64.efi over bootmgfw.efi and hack the
30_os-prober script so that it would chainload a backup copy of the
original MS bootmgfw.efi that I made.
I really hope that the installer will learn to recognise these instances
and fix them.
Perhaps simply an additional option on the installer CD? Something like
"Fix EFI boot location"? That could copy the grubx64.efi to the EFI/Boot
and maybe even EFI/Microsoft/Boot and also set a trigger so that
whenever grub is updated, those two locations get updated as well?
