"priority=3" I suggest is below the "priority=5" of the xdvi entry, so the xdvi is earlier in the generated /etc/mailcap and so preferred whenever its "test $DISPLAY" succeeds. (This "priority" bit is a debian extra described in the update-mime man page.) I wondered afterwards if priority=2 might leave more room for flavours of graphical viewers.
