Given that we don't know what went wrong with this user's system, we will just have to wait until someone shows us how to reproduce the problem, if it is reproducible. Michael Rasmussen: Did you ever upgrade to sarge per se, or did you upgrade straight from potato to post-sarge sid? If so then that could be the reason you have this problem. Upgrades that skip stable releases are not supported.
