Package: packages
Version: current
The debian packages websites (I've found two, surely there should be
one?) present an inconsistent and confusing user experience that does
not do justice to Debian's greatness.
Issues
* Most pages mentioned below lack a search feature and lack a link to a
search page.
* Only individual package pages have a small search at the top (which
every page should have).
But when you're on such a page it is more likely that you've actually
found the package you're looking for.
However when you're actually looking at pages at higher levels, (when
you're more likely to be looking for a package) there is no search feature.
* There are two independent advanced search pages on separate
subdomains, but the normal advanced package search page doesn't mention
the backports search page in any obvious way. (or at all)
* Using the search at the top of https://www.debian.org/distrib/packages
doesn't search packages, it searches the whole of the debian site.
The search box is not labelled, so one might think that the search is
for packages, since it's a page about packages.
* The advanced search at https://www.debian.org/distrib/packages appears
below the fold, even on a Full HD monitor. Surely the search should be
more easily accessible?
If you go to any modern successful ecommerce website (good UX) there is
generally a search feature prominently available above the fold. Just as
there are many packages available in Debian, big ecommerce websites have
many products. Search is an important feature.

I'm quite new to debian, it looks like all of this functionality has
evolved over time.
Perhaps it needs a UX overhaul?
I'm using Chromium on 1920x1080 resolution.
