Package: courier-authdaemon Version: 0.66.1-1 Severity: normal In /etc/courier/authdaemonrc I had
LOGGEROPTS="auth"
which was working for a while until (probably after package upgrade)
"authdaemond" failed to start. The following was logged to syslog during my
attempts to recover:
imapd-ssl: authentication error: No such file or directory
[..]
imapd-ssl: authdaemon: s_connect() failed: No such file or directory
[..]
imapd-ssl: authdaemon: s_connect() failed: Connection refused
imapd-ssl: [Hint: perhaps authdaemond is not running?]
Following the above hint I tried to start authdaemond using
/etc/init.d/courier-authdaemon
however service failed to start without any errors.
Even worse "start" reported success when daemon failed to start.
The problem was resolved only by reverting to default
LOGGEROPTS=""
Considering the above I'd like to point out number of problems:
* regression was introduced without any hints or warnings
(e.g. NEWS file, changelog note etc.).
* init script failed to start daemon but reported success.
* ambiguous "no such file" errors in syslog are misleading.
Thanks.
