Package: python-torctl
Version: 20130920git-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I came across the issue when invoking `arm' (package: tor-arm). The
program refused from starting, stating:

`Arm requires TorCtl to run, but it's unavailable. Would you like to
install it? (y/n):'

Some days ago, `arm' worked as expected, so I guess there has been an
update causing the issue. I have tried to purge and re-install tor-arm
as well as python-torctl without any success.

Trying to import the module `TorCtl' in python directly fails
even (module not found).

Analyzing the problem I found out, that the files for `TorCtl' are
present in /usr/share/pyshared/TorCtl, however there was no link in any
of the directories listed in the python variable `sys.path' as there
were for different python modules.

My workaround of the problem was to place a symbolic link `TorCtl' in
`/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages' pointing to the directory
`/usr/share/pyshared/TorCtl'. So, I can import `TorCtl' in python as
well as invoke `arm' successfully.

Thank you for your efforts!

Yours sincerely
Maximilian Stein
