This looks like upstream bug:

This has been fixed for the eventual 4.0.4 release. Unfortunately, 4.0.4
seems to be held up by 3 or 4 annoying bugs that are taking time to fix.
The patch looks small, so we should be able to apply this for Debian
fairly easily (the commit will already exist in the upstream40 branch on
Alioth). I will start working on that over the next few days.
