I would think for an upgrade of this magnitude there should be some documentation in the package about how to transition to the new version (for instance, including the links you've provided here in this bug report). IMHO, this is perfect fit for a NEWS.Debian note -- especially since it is backwards incompatible and breaks existing code that has been working for years so abruptly. > Jérémy.
