Can you send me the output to these two commands?
/sbin/fsck.ext4 -V
and
cat /etc/e2fsck.conf
The most likely cause is either:
(a) some how /sbin/fsck.ext4 is an old version of e2fsck (ie., not
1.42.9-3)
or
(b) in /etc/e2fsck.conf, you have the following:
[options]
old_bitmaps = 1
You said an older version of e2fsprogs was able to check this file
system; what version were you using before?
