Thanks for the update.
It looks like that discussion is almost 3 years old. Do you know what
the current status is with udev; e.g. can static entries be generated
manually? Many program configurations refer to ethX pr wlanX instead of
an IP address - things like bridge creation or snort or ntop or vnstat
and so on. It was much easier to edit the net rules file than trying to
remember and track down all the programs that need to be reconfigured
when a net card goes bad, has to be replaced, and ethX suddenly becomes
ethX+1.
