The last example configuration shown in the manpage is
/var/log/news/news.crit {
....
}
However, the paragraph explaining it says:
The last section defines the parameters for all of the files in
/var/log/news. Each file is rotated on a monthly basis. This is
considered a single rotation directive and if errors occur for more
then one file, the log files are not compressed.
I suspect that (1) the example configuration should be changed from
`/var/log/news/news.crit {' to `/var/log/news/* {'
and (2) it would be nice to change `then one file' to `than one file'
