Regarding the divergence, actually the Debian’s package is based on Ubuntu’s (see the changelog), and later Debian decided to rename chromium-browser to chromium. Ubuntu maintainers decided to not take this change as it will prevent them from maintaining the same packaging for several stable releases. -- Dmitry Shachnev
