An update before the Christmas rush: The experimental branch contains a version of Gramps 4.0.2 that builds the following packages: 1. python-gramps 2. python3-gramps The following problems with this need to be fixed: 1. If you install python-gramps only, the python3-gramps script in usr/bin is also installed (and vice versa). 2. You cannot install both python-gramps & python3-gramps in parallel. The 2nd install fails when it tries to overwrite the files in usr/share/locales. 3. There must be a tidier way to automagically achieve this with setup.py! Patches are welcome from anyone who can help with this and has some spare time over Christmas. The to-do list: 1. Need to add a note to the python3-gramps long description in debian/control to warn users about backing up before they convert to the bsddb3 database version. 2. Need to update debian/README.Debian to give the status of the problematic dependencies for the python3 version of Gramps. 3. Need to add a webapp package to debian/control that depends on python-gramps and django etc.. It will need a debian/python-webapp.install file so only the webapp is intalled, and the webapp files removed from python(3)-gramps. 4. Need to test the webapp and workout how to configure the right environment for django & the webserver. Note: Plan B might be to package a simple (single) python 2 version of Gramps 4.0.2 in time for the Debian Import Freeze for Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty) on February 6th 2014.
