No, it can't be ignored. I work almost exclusively with text terminals
(Iceweasel and local Emacs instances are the exceptions). Having spam
in these terminals is a bit like screen blanking, and is actually
worse: with screen blanking, just unblank it when it occurs (e.g. by
moving the mouse). Concerning spam in terminals, unless a curses
application is running in it, there's no way to discard the spam.
The user gets permanently distracted, copy-paste of large blocks will
contain spam, some data that should fit in a window will no longer fit
because of spam in the middle, etc.
