I am against this approach because batctl is like bridge-utils (with some 
extra utilities). It is neither necessary to manage a bat0 device (you can use 
e.g. ip, rtnetlink or the sysfs interface) nor is it the debian way to manage 
network interfaces. 

It is nice for you when your init-hack is enough for you but from experience I 
can tell you that this only makes problems when interfaces go up/down or 
appear/disappear, ...
