revisiting this, it seems that there was some confusion: the "goto" history is separate from the history-page. Given two or more urls on the command line, by typing "g", you get a prompt. On that prompt (which says for instance "Edit a previous Goto URL"), you can use the up/down arrows to select from the possibilities.
