The edit box in the file renaming dialogue works like a charm: The first key stroke, if it is a cursor movement to the right or to the left, decides where the cursor goes - to the beginning or to the end of the selection. In the inline editing box however, the cursor is fixed at the end of the selection. When one want's to add, say, a number to the end of the base name, one has to move the cursor in order to clear the selection and move it back again - like with Windows.
