Yes it works in current unstable. Below is list of command and output
proving this.

fc-match sans:lang=ml
Meera.ttf: "Meera" "Regular"

fc-match serif:lang=ml
Rachana.ttf: "Rachana" "Regular"

fc-match sans:lang=kn
Lohit-Kannada.ttf: "Lohit Kannada" "Regular"

fc-match serif:lang=kn
Lohit-Kannada.ttf: "Lohit Kannada" "Regular"

fc-match sans:lang=ta
Lohit-Tamil.ttf: "Lohit Tamil" "Regular"

fc-match serif:lang=ta
Lohit-Tamil.ttf: "Lohit Tamil" "Regular"

The change we see is sans Malayalam now returns Meera as expected which
is changed in the patch I forwarded. Also serif for Malayalam correctly
returns Rachana.

For Kannada it now returns Lohit in both case and for Tamil it returns
Lohit Tamil previously as ascii font got introduced for Tamil which is
cleaned by this patch.
