Hi. This probably needs to done upstream (and likely in libc??)... What would be really awesome is having and /etc/services.d/ directory in addition to the file /etc/services. It should be parsed after /etc/services, so that one can override earlier entries (IIRC; later entries in /etc/services override earlier ones)... and /etc/services.d/* should also be parsed in order (e.g. like with run-parts).
