Greetings, and thanks for your report!  Just a little note, Debian axiom
will default to gcl's readline support in a genuine terminal, including
tab completion.  This can be disabled with (si::readline-off) at the
lisp level.  Unfortunately, readline cannot be made to work well with
the sman i/o system, AFAICT.  There are a few other bugs related to
this.  You can start axiom without sman and it should work for you.
