Thanks for testing.
/etc/machine-id is the new location used by systemd (that's why I didn't
notice the issue, as I use systemd) and /var/lib/dbus/machine-id is the
old location used by dbus.

We'll need to update NM to read from /var/lib/dbus/machine-id as
fallback if it doesn't find /etc/machine-id and not segfault if it can't
read that either.
