Yes, I don't think that a moreinfo tag here is warranted; we have identified
the specific cause of your problem, namely a recursion between autofs
calling smbmount/mount.cifs to resolve a mount point, and
smbmount/mount.cifs chdir()ing to a directory controlled by autofs.

The only real question is whether this *can* be fixed, or if it must not be
in the interest of security.

As noted, this is only likely to be fixed in mount.cifs in any case, given
the deprecated status of smbfs.
