As embarrassing as it seems, two days before the release of wheezy,
my test installation still claims I am having "Debian Verison 7.0",
not "version".

>From /etc/init.d/linuxlogo:

                "${DAEMON}" -t "Debian Verison $(cat /etc/debian_version)" -f >
/etc/issue.linuxlogo
                "${DAEMON}" -t "Debian Verison $(cat /etc/debian_version)" -a
-f > /etc/issue.linuxlogo.ascii

and further down

                "${DAEMON}" -t "Debian Verison $(cat /etc/debian_version)"
