Hi, I also lost all images under w3m / w3m-img after I upgraded from squeeze to wheezy, running w3m / w3m-img from xfce4-terminal or lxterminal.
When I use rxvt-term or xterm, then this problem does not mainfest. I would venture a guess that this is a libvte9 problem.
