Package: github-backup
Version: 1.20120627+b1
Severity: minor

thanks for the github-backup. Besides 'backup' facility it allows to easy
'review' of the clones network with gitk -- very lovely. But it has a big
inconvenience

atm github-backup for my fail2ban repository generates dozens of directories
in the root directory of the project, such as

Linutux_fail2ban/ batnasan06_fail2ban/ equalitie_fail2ban/
jakubjedelsky_fail2ban/ knxroot_fail2ban/ leeclemens_fail2ban/
mmckinst_fail2ban/ patricktokeeffe_fail2ban/ xiongww_fail2ban/
Th4nat0s_fail2ban/ blotus_fail2ban/ fail2ban_fail2ban/
jhcodeh_fail2ban/ kwirk_fail2ban/ loveshell_fail2ban/
msoulard_fail2ban/ sourcejedi_fail2ban/ yakatz_fail2ban/
afragen_fail2ban/ combro2k_fail2ban/ gebi_fail2ban/
keszybz_fail2ban/ landline_fail2ban/ mellitus_fail2ban/
msporleder_fail2ban/ staabm_fail2ban/ yarikoptic_fail2ban/
ajhoughton_fail2ban/ engeset_fail2ban/ it-consulting-lorenz_fail2ban/
kiru42_fail2ban/ lchiquitto_fail2ban/ mjvaldez_fail2ban/
opoplawski_fail2ban/ tonivdv_fail2ban/

it pollutes the view, interfers with 'git clean' etc... wouldn't it be more
logical to keep them e.g. under .git/backups/ ?

I really hope you would find some time to give some TLC to this tool, Joey --
it has big potential. not sure if worth listing here, probably worth a
separate report but I would also love to have a 'lean' mode of operation --
when only the remote branches which are not descendants of similarly names
branches I have (or not already merged into any local branches) get fetched. I
know that it is not really a 'full backup' then, but it would allow for easy
review of what is happening with the clones. ATM it is barely manageable for
me:

(git)novo:~deb/fail2ban[master]git
$> git br -a | wc -l
1011

Thanks in advance ;-)
