Hello Carsten - I just recently installed the latest Wheezy RC1 and the issue seems to be addressed. In my case, the English spell check is enabled by default.

Maybe there is really a issue with the finish language package. In the between times there are some new releases of the current 10.x branch from Mozilla released. This issue happen also with the current version 10.0.12-1 and suitable l10n packges? If you you can follow the hints from the wiki [1] an post them here in a packed fiel format.
